Securing EasiShare with NCL Singapore
Security is at the core of everything we do at Inspire-Tech. Hence, we have been constantly testing EasiShare for vulnerabilities in this harsh environment with ever-increasing threats. Traditionally, such tests have mostly been manual and resource-intensive.
In 2018, we came across National Cybersecurity R&D Laboratories (NCL) and met up with the team to understand their offerings. After internal evaluation, we saw that their resources can support our plans to perform deeper tests for vulnerabilities with higher efficiency. We were then onboarded to NCL testbed to deploy our environments for testing and started our journey.
About NCL
NCL is a national cybersecurity lab that provides computing resources, repeatable and controllable experimentation environments, as well as application services. The infrastructure includes a cluster of 300 nodes that provides a wide range of provisioning mechanisms, security data and security services.
NCL aims to provide a platform that fosters and encourages collaboration among researchers in academia, government bodies and the industry. The laboratory is funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) since November 2015.
Testing EasiShare in NCL Environment
We first began by providing NCL with the topology we require for our needs. NCL team then provisioned the environments and provided documentations regarding access, house rules and available tools. For example, there were scripts to generate normal traffic and attack traffic. Once the environments were ready, we installed EasiShare and performed our simlulations.
Over the past 2 years, we have completed multiple tests covering functionality tests, security scanning, traffic simulation and load tests. From these simulations, test results were provided to our development team for review and enhancements.
NCL testbed provides a quick way to setup test environments and run our test cases. Throughout this journey, NCL team has been very helpful and supportive. We look forward to conducting more tests in NCL’s environment as we continue to improve EasiShare.
